Not today…

A small, empty apartment, with white walls and dark wood floors.

I planned to make a small post today, leading up to a larger post this weekend—as I’ve gotten in the habit of doing on Wednesdays—but it was a hell of a day at the hospital today…my back is in pain, my brain is swimming, my head is pounding, and I’m practically in tears thinking of how I have to do it again in three weeks.

Tell me something you cooked recently? Anything at all…and how was it?

I know I could google it, but I’d rather ask you: what is Brunswick stew??

it was a way to use up leftovers, but it has Worcestershire sauce in it and maybe some of a southern sweet/sour bbq taste . . . a mix of shredded meats and veggies, a taste of nostalgia ♥︎

Okay, first of all I love Worcestershire sauce…and second of all, this sounds so good that I must try it! 😋

Okay, I googled it and learned how to make it my own: fresh squirrels! 😂

“In 1849, the Alexandria Gazette described Brunswick stew as ‘a genuine South-side dish, composed of squirrels, chicken, a little bacon, and corn and tomatoes’.” 🤔

Oh, okay, I’ll cancel my plans to go outside and attempt catching a squirrel with one of my crutches! 😉

Just posted my DIY amateur recipe for a sandwich bread that I bake at home here in Japan. It’s not white and fluffy. https://fgbjr.name/foodstuff/sandwich-loaf/

Thank you so much! It reminds me of a sourdough version of a tangzhong style milk bread I make. When I’m back on my feet, I’ll give your recipe a try!

I can’t even remember the last time I cooked anything 😂 Does a halfassed microwaved jacket potato count‽ I had one every day before I ended up in hospital!

Of course it counts! If you made it & it nourishes you, then you cooked!

Found a recipe on YouTube for making a Dominos-ish pizza at home. Turned out pretty good, with the key element being rolling your final dough in some corn meal. Overall, it wasn’t quite the same, but good enough to do way more pizzas at home, even in my small oven.

Excellent! I’m glad it was good!

I’ve never heard of rolling the dough itself in cornmeal—I’m going to give it a try!—but I used to teach my students to toss some under the pizza before topping it, as well as to put some on the pan too…it adds such nice crispness, as well as the flavor is very distinct to the restaurant-style pizzas that so many of us grew up on. Thank you!!
